2024 HACKATHON
PRODUCED BY
ROCKY HILL
COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL
.
2024 Topic: Hack the Horizon
United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 aspires to make the world’s cities and communities safe, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable. 70 percent of the world’s population is expected to live in cities by 2050. This year, students in grades PreK through 12 will collaborate to develop innovative solutions to the biggest problems facing our cities and towns – the lack of safe and affordable housing, economic inequalities, pollution, outdated systems of transportation, inadequate green space, and more.
Who?
In 2024, Hack for Global Good welcomes students from around Rhode Island to work together to develop innovative solutions related to UN Global Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. No prior Hackathon experience required.
Where?
Students will hack at Rocky Hill Country Day School in East Greenwich on Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon, and Thursday morning. On Thursday afternoon, students will travel to District Hall in Providence to pitch their innovations to a panel of esteemed judges.
Why?
Participation in the Hack for Global Good offers students the opportunity to collaborate, ideate, problem solve, and network all while contributing innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing problems. As one of the Hack For Global Co-Chairs said, “Changing the world is hard, but a hard thing will become an impossible thing without a start. The Hack for Global Good can be your starting point.” Participating in the H4GG allows YOU to be a change agent. Join us!

In addition to furthering the scientific community as a published bench and clinical researcher for Brown University, the University of Pennsylvania Health System, Jefferson Health, Drexel University College of Medicine, and the Drexel University Department of Chemistry, Cutler has partnered with several institutions and organizations within the greater Philadelphia area – including The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, The Salvation Army, and MANNA to support the health and well-being of his local community.
From 2012-2014, Cutler competed as a sponsored, professional athlete on the World Snowboard Tour. Following his international snowboarding career, Cutler attended Delaware County Community College and eventually Drexel University. As an undergraduate, Cutler assisted with the development of Phi Delta Epsilon (PhiDE) – Drexel University’s undergraduate medical fraternity – and established the Peer Mentoring Program to support his peers academically. Cutler has ample experience leading philanthropy and fundraising campaigns for PhiDE’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Additionally, Cutler was a program assistant for the CARE Reimagined Project alongside Penn Medicine’s Innovation Team and has spent years as a published clinical researcher for the Division of Plastic Surgery at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine.
More recently, Cutler was a Scientist II at Novartis in cancer drug discovery where he and his team plan to create novel therapies and technologies. He is now working full-time as the founder of Looie (https://www.looie.app/blog) and cofounder of Astellar Labs, which has landed him an opportunities to partake in the Mass Challenge Accelerator and as a finalist in the Get Started Rhode Island Pitch Competition. Cutler’s broad healthcare, computer science, and scientific experience has prepared him for both technical and entrepreneurial career paths.

Our Partners
H4GG is excited to announce partnerships with RI Hub, CIC, Venture Café, and Looie.
Looie’s Founder & CEO, Cutler Whitely, will kick off the hackathon as our keynote speaker.
Hack teams will be supported by expert RI Hub mentors as they ideate and prototype solutions at this year’s hackathon. Our final pitch event is hitting the road in 2024, and thanks to CIC’s District Hall, hack teams will pitch their innovative solutions right in the Center of Providence’s Innovation and Design District.
Winners will then have the opportunity to share their solutions with the wider Providence innovation community at a specially designed Venture Cafe Thursday Gathering.
